Inaugural Fall Classic was huge success
Carole and Crystal organized the first TFN Fall Classic Tournament at Fox Lake Country Club. The two-day competitive event took place on September 27th and 28th. For $165, the players received: two-days golf & cart, light lunch on Saturday afternoon, steak, chicken, pasta or fish dinner with two sides and a cocktail on Saturday evening at Dockers (which is right on the lake), light lunch on Sunday, appetizers, desserts and wine for the cocktail hour award’s ceremony on Sunday following the round, prizes (cash & plaques) for the winners and a goodie bag filled with a “Get me to the 19th Hole” Crystal ball marker, foot cream, pumice stone, slice of vanilla comfort cake.
The field consisted of 18 competitive players divided into two flights, with handicaps ranging from 16.5 to 38. The event was opened to non-TFN members and two guests were welcomed. It was individual stroke play.
Sunday’s pairings were based on the scores from Saturday’s round and the golf carts and tee times were arranged accordingly. Sunday’s round ended about 1:00 p.m. Again, the signed score cards were turned it to determine overall division winners. The cocktail reception and awards ceremony immediately followed. The winners of each contest and division winners were:
Saturday putting contest: Ava Youngblood
Sunday putting contest: Maria Bahena
Saturday closest to pin: Rosemary Hackett
Sunday closest to pin: Maria Bahena
Saturday longest drive: Lori Lynch
Sunday longest drive: Henna Koivisto
Division I: Lori Lynch was the winner, but she had Karen Kane and Louise Pauly trailing by one and two strokes respectively
Division II: Miriam Clements with Nancy John trailing by two strokes
Overall, it was perfect and the best deal in town. The course was challenging and the pro was an absolute delight and extremely accommodating to us. Everyone left looking forward to next year’s event.
