The Fairway Network’s Sunday morning league has become a favorite among many with its beautiful course, bi-monthly schedule, great player camaraderie and fun games. The Eaglewood course was originally built in 1928 and just completed a $1.5 Million course renovation last year.

The par-72, 6,017-yard course boasts 100-year-old oak trees, three beautiful lakes and dramatically sloping greens that will challenge golfers of all skill levels. The course has contoured fairways and smooth bent grass greens. There are over 69 challenging bunkers offering several elevation changes from tee to green. Water comes into play in 8 of 18 holes.

The resort golf course has a beautiful women’s locker room, a nice pro shop and large putting green. After golf, fairway members often stay and enjoy drinks or lunch at the outside terrace café. The course is conveniently located off the I-355 in Itasca IL. League fee includes green fees, golf cart and weekly prizes.

Come out and play the course that helped to launch The Fairway Network. Without the support of this urban legend (read Bill Murray’s “Cinderella Story” for his history working at the then Evanston Community Golf Course), TFN would not be the success it is today. Then called Peter N. Jans Community Golf Course after an Evanston community leader, Govern Golf Course was the first golf course that enthusiastically welcomed The Fairway Network’s weekend leagues in our beginning in 1993.

The Frank Govern Memorial Golf Course is a fun, fantastic layout for every golfer. For new players looking to challenge themselves, Govern provides that challenge without being intimidating. The experienced player must hit straight shots and focus on her short game to score. In addition to shorter holes, Govern is NARROW. Beginner or seasoned player, you will have a challenging round. That being said, the golf course, as part of its change in name, is planning to make improvements to the course to make it even more fun (read “playable”) with tree trimming (not quite as narrow), new forward tees on the longer par 3 (No. 2 for example) and improved tee boxes.

Here is the best kept secret of an executive length golf course. It doesn’t take 4 hours to play! In fact, anyone can play 18 holes at Jans in 3 hours and 15 minutes. The tee times are early—7:30 to about 8:15 depending on the number of players. And that means you are done and off the golf course no later than 11:30. The rest of your Saturday is free for errands or fun. Maybe lunch with your fellow players at one of Evanston’s fine eateries.

The league fee covers greens fees and weekly prizes as well as a continental breakfast buffet. The course has pull carts and motorized carts available for an extra fee.

Jackson Park remains one of the most popular leagues. The members that play Jackson Park are experienced golfers who are serious about developing their skills while having fun and networking with a great group of ladies who are known to have a good time at our infamous 19th Hole. The ten week format is popular because it allows members to enjoy TFN events during the off weeks.

New league members with a passion for golf are always welcome and encouraged. Jackson is a walk only course and not recommended for the out-of-shape or faint-of-heart. Back to back par 5s and a long par 4 on the back 9 on a hot summer day have been known to make a few of us moan and complain.

The history of the Jackson Park area is chronicled in Erik Larson’s Devil in the White City; some of the historic sites can be seen from the course and driving range, which is a short distance from the clubhouse. Jackson Park is also an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary, but the large folk of monk parakeets are probably not on the endangered species list. It’s a challenging putt when they fly squawking overhead.

In addition to our weekly contests we’ll also have special features like, Bloody Mary Day, 4 Club Day, and Pink Ball to name just a few.

The camaraderie we share and the fun we have during and after play makes Jackson Park a terrific league experience.
